Oscar Pistorius has been sentenced to six years in jail for murdering his girlfriend, Reeva Steenkamp.
In
reading out her sentencing, Judge Thokozile Masipa said she would consider a
variety of factors, including the interests of society and those of the
victims, as well as themes of crime deterrence and rehabilitation of
perpetrators.
The
fact that the killing was purportedly a mistake, in Pistorius' account,
"does not in any way make the offence any less serious," Masipa said.
She therefore sentenced him to 6 years imprisonment.
