Lionel
Messi scored his 500th career goal when he netted for Barcelona against
Valencia in La Liga action on Sunday.
Messi,
already the leading scorer of all time for both Barcelona and La Liga, bagged
his 500th goal in 632 appearances. The forward now has 450 goals in 525 games
with Barcelona and 50 in 107 games for Argentina.
Although
he did not manage to score in the past four games, Messi has been on fire so
far in 2016, with 26 goals in 28 games.
His
haul of 309 league goals has him comfortably ahead of Madrid's Cristiano
Ronaldo (256), while he closed on Gabriel Batistuta's record of 56 goals for
Argentina by netting his 50th against Bolivia last week.
