The current Big Brother Africa
reality TV show assumes another dimension as more contestants are evicted from
the House, writes CHUX OHAI
The ongoing Big Brother Africa TV
reality show, titled ‘The Chase’, seems to be getting really hotter and more
controversial. With the eviction of ‘Mama Africa’ Natasha from Malawi and
Ghanaian beauty, Selly, from the Big Brother house on Sunday, it is obvious
that the House and viewers across Africa have just been deprived of a good dose
of drama and humour.
Just as Natasha’s fellow housemates
were surprised at her exit, the Malawian’s fans, many of who had seen her as a
possible winner of the coveted $300,000 cash prize, must still be reeling in
shock. Yet, there are a few who may have seen the handwriting on the wall
clearly before she fell.
From the onset, the buxom lady had
been a survivor of multiple nominations and several times, she managed to
escape eviction by the whiskers. Unfortunately, those timely votes that had
saved her in the past just couldn’t continue to work in her favour.
Natasha must have had a premonition
of her own eviction because her final Diary Session on Sunday evening implied
that her game was up. “Sometimes your luck runs out”, she had said. A few
hours later, she and Selly became the seventh pair of house-mates to be booted
out of the house.
Natasha finally joins fellow
Malawian, Fatima, who was evicted from the BBA house last week.
For Selly, the Ghanaian who has had
brief romantic but stormy liaisons with two fellow chasemates, Sulu of Gambia
and the Ethiopian, Nando, and survived tricky moments in the Ruby and Diamond
houses, eviction came as a shocking end to her dream of going home with the
prize.
One of Nigeria’s representatives in
the BBA 2013 show, Melvin has so far managed to survive the intrigues and scheming
among the housemates. At the same time, he is gradually proving to be a master
of the chase.
Melvin’s popularity was effectively
put to test on the same night when he suddenly found himself being put up for
eviction, despite his position as the head of the Diamonds House. This cool
young man’s escape, after refusing to bail himself out as a privileged
housemate, clearly shows that he is favoured by most voters and viewers across
Africa.
With Natasha’s surprise exit, it is
possible that attention may have shifted to Melvin, who is already being touted
as a possible winner of the chase.
Meanwhile, there are indications that
Betty, the second Ethiopian representative alleged to have had sex in the Big
Brother Africa House with Bolt from Sierra Leone three days after the reality
show began, stands to face prosecution and a possible jail term in her country
for her comportment.
The former housemate was kicked out
of the house with her lover amid widespread condemnation from groups in her
home country. It is rumoured that she is expecting a lawsuit from lawyers
in Ethiopia for having sex in public.
E-Punch gathered that a local radio
show in Ethiopia, known as Ethiopikalink, recently revealed that the former BBA
housemate could be jailed for six years if convicted.
As if that was not enough
controversy, Nigeria’s second representative, Beverly Osu is the subject of a
raging controversy on social media at present. The Nigerian housemate is linked
with a recent video, which was circulated online, showing her in a compromising
position with fellow housemate Angelo of South Africa.
